Friday 15th May - bike ***** - Felixstowe to Waldringfield – Sunny and warm.

After a few days of cold weather caused by winds coming in from the NE things started to warm up today with a swing to the SW:) So with light winds and wall to wall sunshine we were keen to get out on the bikes again so with both breakfast and lunch packed we decided to head to Waldringfield again. Leaving home at 9.20 and got to the cliff top in time to watch the Stenna Ferry heading out, then down onto the prom turning left. Yet another deep blue sky as we cycled to the Fludgers with a few families on the beach, plus joggers, cyclists and walkers all keeping a good distance from each other including two stand up paddle boarders! People are defiantly on the move now but can’t stay home forever as life must go on! Round to the Dip, past the poppy bank and reaching Felixstowe in time to see the harbour master using his boat to ferry people across to Bawdsey:) On to the Deben path which is becoming bumpier by the day as it dries out! Again, we stopped at the benches by the water ski jetty for a cuppa and a homemade cheese muffin surrounded by stunning scenery, we never tire of this route along the river! We must sit here nearly an hour before bumping our way to Kirton Creek, spotting Buzzards, A Marsh Harrier, a Heron, several Little Egrets with the swans all still on their nests with no sign of youngsters yet! Turning inland up the footpath with it’s old hedgerow to Hemley Church. Taking the nice track to Waldringfield the barley is now a foot tall, we have really enjoyed watching the crops being set and then grow! Down on the beach at Waldringfield with the tide low there were not many boats out and we sat near the sailing club for our yummy sandwich being entertained by families crabbing or just throwing stones in. Then a jet bike arrived to visit his lovely beach hut as we set off back to Newbourne. We crossed a beautiful poppy field, stopped at the Fox to watch the fish in the pond before the up and down road back to Kirton. We needed some flour again so made a small detour to Goslings Nursery. It was then home along the horrible main road through the Trimleys and Walton getting home after 4 hrs 40 mins seeing all the best that Suffolk has to offer, we are just so lucky to live here:) The wind had filled in and was blowing nicely up the Deben at Waldringfield so I checked Landguard weather station to see if it was worth going foiling but it wasn’t worth going so I did my exercises in the sunny garden!
